Arabic Philology Department

On April 12, 2018, the State Commission for Religious Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic issued certificate No. 0382-RUZ, granting the right to provide higher religious education. In addition, on April 2, 2018, based on order No. 388/1 of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, license No. LD180000156 was issued to conduct educational activities (code: 531000 – Philology (Arabic Philology)). Based on this license, the Arabic Philology Department was established to implement the educational program 531000 – Philology (Arabic Philology), and student training began in accordance with the State Educational Standard of the Kyrgyz Republic. As a result, in the 2018–2019 academic year 50 students were admitted to the first year, and the department began conducting the educational process within the Faculty of Humanities. At present, 190 students are studying in the 531000 – Arabic Philology educational program.

The mission of the Arabic Philology Department is to train specialists who have deep knowledge of the Arabic language, literature, and culture, possess modern philological education, multilingual competence, and competitiveness, and who contribute to the development of interlingual and intercultural ties.

The main goals of the department are as follows:

  • to train highly qualified philology specialists within the framework of the 531000 – Philology (Arabic Philology) educational program;
  • to develop students’ language and communicative competencies through modern methods of teaching Arabic;
  • to master the theoretical foundations of Arabic literature, linguistics, and culture;
  • to develop students’ skills in translation, text analysis, and research work;
  • to educate specialists who preserve national and universal values and are capable of intercultural dialogue;
  • to improve the quality of education and intensify research activities.

The main activities of the Arabic Philology Department include the following areas:

  • organizing and conducting the educational process for the 531000 – Philology (Arabic Philology) program in accordance with the State Educational Standard of the Kyrgyz Republic;
  • conducting lectures, seminars, and practical classes in the Arabic language, Arabic literature, linguistics, and the humanities;
  • developing and updating curricula, teaching and methodological complexes, syllabi, and educational programs;
  • organizing students’ research work and supervising course papers and final qualification theses;
  • developing the research activities of the faculty, preparing scientific articles and teaching materials;
  • organizing scientific and practical conferences, seminars, and round tables;
  • conducting linguistic and cultural educational events;
  • developing cooperation with state, educational, and international organizations;
  • carrying out educational work with students and ensuring their practical training;
  • supporting graduates’ successful adaptation to the labor market.

The Arabic Philology Department has been headed since the second half of the 2021–2022 academic year by acting department head Azamat Shamshiev.

A graduate who successfully completes the 531000 – Philology (Arabic Philology) educational program is awarded the qualification of philologist (bachelor).

Graduates of the Arabic Philology specialty can work in the following institutions and organizations:

  • in general education schools, colleges, and higher education institutions as teachers;
  • in language courses and educational centers;
  • in translation bureaus and international organizations as translators;
  • in state institutions and diplomatic services as specialists;
  • in mass media and publishing houses;
  • in research institutions;
  • in cultural and educational organizations.

The objects of graduates’ professional activity include the following:

  • the Arabic language and its dialects;
  • Arabic literature and texts;
  • the relationship between language and culture;
  • translation activity and interlingual communication.
